Goshen Leader Update – August
Hello Goshen Leaders!
Thanks again for attending summer camp with us this past summer! A few quick updates as we move into fall:
- Registration for Summer 2023 opens on Thursday, September 1 at 9am. For those of you that booked your 2023 spot while you were at camp this summer, the registration contact from Summer 2022 will receive a confirmation email with your unit’s 2023 registration number by Thursday at the latest. - If you attended a Scouts BSA camp and still need copies of your scouts’ merit badge records, you can find a quick walkthrough and summary of some of the more helpful report formats here: www.gotogoshen.org/bowman/need-merit-badge-records/
- Goshen’s Labor Day Family Camp is this coming weekend – and there’s still some last minute spaces, including for Merit Badge Make-ups, if you have scout families that are looking for a fun weekend and also a way to finish up those last few requirements from the summer. Save the dates for Goshen Scout Reservation Summer 2023!
We will be offering five weeks of summer camps at all three Scouts BSA resident camps – Bowman, Marriott, and Olmsted. Camp Ross will again be running six weeks. Lenhok’sin High Adventure will be offering five weeks of backpacking program and river trekking program. Stay tuned for more information about expanded provisional (individual) trek options for this summer!

Goshen 2022 units that reserved their spot at camp will get a confirmation email in late August with their new registration number.

Re: Goshen Scout Reservation COVID-19 Guidelines: UPDATED/REVISED
Good evening Goshen Family,
In response to a series of questions regarding transportation, we are clarifying the following.
For units attending the Week 3 Session at Camp Marriott and Camp Bowman:
– Units who are using the Goshen provided bus transportation OR are using a combination of the Goshen bus transportation and personal vehicles may arrive at camp on Sunday, July 10th. Meals will be provided.
– Units who are only using personal transportation should plan to arrive on Monday, July 11th, as stated in the previous COVID-19 update emails.
Camp Olmsted, Camp Ross, and Lenhok’sin High Adventure are still scheduled for their original start date of July 10th. Units should continue to plan to arrive at their originally scheduled times.

Goshen Scout Reservation COVID-19 Guidelines: UPDATED/REVISED
Good afternoon Goshen Family,
Thank you all for your patience and understanding after yesterday’s announcement regarding the Goshen Scout Reservation and COVID-19. We would like to make the following change to yesterday’s statement.
- Campers will be required to wear face masks in all indoor settings, but will NOT be required to mask when outdoors.
Staff will be required to mask in indoor and outdoor settings. - Units who are arriving via bus and personal transportation may arrive together on Sunday (July 10th). A staff member will be present upon arrival to complete the check-in and Medical Check process with each unit. Program will begin the afternoon of Monday, July 11th.
- Scouts will be able to complete merit badges next week, and are not anticipated to receive partial credit. To accommodate for the missed Monday morning merit badge period, a Friday merit badge period will be held.
- Units who attended Camp Bowman and Camp Marriott during the Week 1 session are encouraged to test if experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, however the potential exposure rate within scouts is expected to be low, as all current active cases are within the staff body.
The health and safety of the scouts and staff at the Goshen Scout Reservation remains our top priority. We appreciate your understanding and flexibility as we navigate this developing situation, and hope to see many of you over the coming weeks at Goshen.

Urgent Camp Update 7/6/2022
Good evening Goshen Family,
This email contains urgent updates regarding Goshen Scout Reservation operations and the COVID-19 pandemic.
As a result of growing COVID-19 case numbers at Camp Marriott and Camp Bowman, the decision has been made to temporarily close both camps for the remainder of this week, with the intention of reopening on July 11th for the Week 3 session. Week 2 Campers who arrived at Marriott and Bowman via the Goshen-provided bus will be picked up tomorrow to return home. Specific details regarding this early departure are being communicated directly to units in camp. Campers departing early will be presented with alternate opportunities for advancement completion at a later date and will receive a 50% refund. Week 2 operations at Camp Ross, Camp Olmsted, and Lenhok’sin High Adventure will continue as planned with the addition of the below policy updates.
In light of these developments, Goshen Scout Reservation’s COVID-19 procedures and policies have been updated to best respond to the situation at hand. The following policies are in place, effective immediately:
- Masking is required for participants and staff in all program areas, buildings, communal settings, and Goshen provided transportation.
- This includes outdoor areas or anytime you are around people outside of your unit.
- Campers will be asked to provide their own masks (no specifications on mask type)
Camp Olmsted, Camp Ross, and Lenhok’sin High Adventure will start Week 3 as originally scheduled on Sunday, July 10th.
Below are updates to the arrival schedule for Week 3 participants at Camp Marriott and Camp Bowman:
- Arrival has been shifted to the morning of Monday, July 11th (8:00 am – 11:00 am)
- Campers arriving via bus will still arrive on Sunday, July 10th. No program will be available until the afternoon of July 11th. Med Checks will be provided on Sunday for these bus units and the first meal served for them will be Sunday dinner.
- Week 3 program will begin at 2:00 pm on Monday, July 11th.
We recognize that this news may come as a shock and disappointment to many. We appreciate your patience as we work through responding to your questions. This is a developing situation, and we will provide more updates as we have them. The decision to pause two camps’ operations does not come lightly but we have to prioritize the health and safety of our staff and participants. Goshen Leader Update – June
Hello Goshen Leaders!
Eric returning for your last edition for this season. The staff has been arriving over the last couple days and are eagerly anticipating your units arrive.
- Many of you have asked about the Covid procedure for this summer and after reviewing all the CDC, state, and local guideline we have an update. Prior to arriving to camp all Scout and Leader must complete the 2022 Pre-Event medical Screening Checklist.
- Once the unit arrives to camp the unit will be asked to provide the 2022 Unit Pre-Event Medical Screening Form. This quick and easy to complete roster will help to save time at check and avoid having to collect a Pre-Event medical Screening Checklist per camper.
- Please don’t forget all participants (youth & adults) will be required to have a completed BSA Medical Form including Part C (the physical) and the NCAC Health Advisory. Participants (mainly adults) staying less than 72 hours need to have Parts A & B of the Medical Form completed.
- I would like to draw your attention to the recently updated Covid-19 Protocols section of our webpage. This will be a great source for any additional questions you may have.
- We have moved the refund policy deadline to Aug 1st. Please continue to submit your refund requests through the online form found here: https://www.gotogoshen.org/refund. For those that have already submitted, thank you for your patience as we work through processing the requests.
- Units attending a Scouts BSA camp, please fill out the new pre-camp information fields in your registration contact information, including Patrol breakdowns for those at Bowman and Marriott.
- As a note to those that use CPAP machines, Goshen Scout Reservation will have a limited supply for checkout on a first come first serve base. We highly encourage CPAP users to please bring your own battery.
- Lastly, if your unit has Scouts that would be a great candidate for staff, please have them visit our Staff Application. Due to a few last-minute drops, we are still looking to fill a few positions.
